Sümeyra Bengisu Akkurt received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Department of Psychology at Istanbul Şehir University in 2019; and her Master of Arts degree from Psychological Sciences Master's Program at Kadir Has University in 2022, both as a full tuition waiver. In her master's thesis, she examined how different COVID-19 pandemic-related threats influence belief in conspiracy theories and trust in science. As a graduate student, she worked as a fellow in a TUBİTAK-funded study that examined the psycho-social effects of the COVID-19 pandemic from a network analysis perspective. In addition, she worked as a part-time research assistant in another TUBİTAK-funded project on how social cooperation can be increased under the threat of an earthquake. Joining Abdullah Gül University as a Research Assistant in 2020, Akkurt's research interests in social psychology are mainly social identity theory, prejudice and discrimination, intergroup relations, belief in conspiracy theories, collective action, and gender studies.
