I have been working as a specialist / researcher at Kocaeli University in the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Science for more than 23 years. Hereby, I’m be familiar with various materials (polymers, metals, ceramics, composites, coatings), their structural, chemical, mechanical and biological characterization, fracture analysis, etc. and can interpret the results in a scientific manner (see information in attached CV).
I have completed my Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seyda Polat at Kocaeli University, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in June 2017 with the title “Improvement of the antibacterial properties and osteoconductivity of PEEK based spinal Implants by nano structured coatings”. The doctoral work was a part of an EU co-funded EUREKA Eurostars project. The aim was the development of biocompatible coatings with optimal application on PEEK based spinal implants ("cages" to replace intervertebral discs after disc herniation) to overcome the problems with bioinert PEEK implants, i.e. providing antibacterial and osteoconductive behavior for safer spine surgeries. Being the main person for scientific and technical characterization in the Eurostars project, I was able to improve my mechanical, structural and especially corrosion chemistry knowhow on biodegradation (the process behind the release of antimicrobial Ag and osteoinductive Mg) and linking these data to biocompatibility and microbiology testing results to establish process-structure-function relationship and have acquired good expertise in field of life sciences and material science. The doctoral work/project success leads to a Turkish patent (No. 2014/13586), which was distributed to whole EU28, US, Canada, and several Arabian countries under the PCT procedure (WO 2016/080937) in November 2015. New scientific networks and another two EUREKA Eurostars projects were initiated by the Eurostars project.
I have a genuine interest in technology, an eye for detail and an analytical mind aquired from my current work at University as research scientist. I also have a strong track record of developing new techniques and disseminating them to other members of a team. My research work has given me a deep insight into the basic research methodology, analysis and presentation of results and general lab management. I
I will have no problem with the both languages (German and English) because I lived in Germany about 14 years. I completed my primary and secondary education there. So, German is my second native language. My other language skill is English. The education language for bachelor at the university was English.
I have knowledge/experience in chemistry and in materials science. I received my undergraduate degree (Bachelor) in chemistry engineering (Department of Chemistry Engineering, Hacettepe Universty, Ankara), my master and PhD degree in materials engineering (Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Kocaeli University).
