Objective: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effects of psychosocial interventions applied to caregivers of pediatric oncology patients in Turkey on psychological symptoms.
Method: Experimental and quasi-experimental studies were included in line with the PRISMA protocol, nine databases were (Pubmed, Cochrane, MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, Google Scholar, Web of Science, National Thesis Center, ULAKBİM), were searched by title and abstract from each databases of the date January 2010-2021. The databases were searched using the keywords 'child with cancer' or 'pediatric oncology', 'psychosocial intervention', 'nursing', ' psychological symptoms', 'caregivers' or 'parents' in Turkish and English. Endnote X9 was used for reference management. The quality index of the studies was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute's checklists.
Results: Five studies were included in the systematic review. Three studies included were doctoral dissertations and two were individual studies. It was determined that the theory-based nursing practice, psychoeducation program, treatment and training on adaptation to the disease were given as a psychosocial intervention. Psychosocial interventions reduce caregivers' perception of uncertainty and hopelessness towards the disease, anxiety level, caregiver burden, depression and mental problems were decreased and life satisfaction and stress coping skills were increased.
Conclusion: It was determined that psychosocial interventions applied to caregivers of pediatric oncology patients had a positive effect on reducing the psychological problems of caregivers and increasing their well-being. Further studies are recommended to further improve the effectiveness of these interventions and expand their potential impact.
