Çocuk Kliniklerinde Çalışan Hemşirelerin Kültürel Yeterlilik Düzeyleri: Bir Devlet Hastanesi Örneği

Öz

Bu çalışma çocuk kliniklerinde çalışan hemşirelerin kültürel yeterlilik düzeylerini değerlendirmek amacıyla, tanımlayıcı ve ilişkisel tarama yöntemiyle yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın evrenini, Gaziantep’te bir devlet hastanesi çocuk kliniklerinde çalışan 418 hemşire, örneklemini gönüllü 215 hemşire oluşturmuştur. Araştırma, 28.07.2019- 01.09.2019 tarihleri arasında yapılmıştır. Verilerin toplanmasında, “Sosyodemografik Veri Formu” ve “Kültürel Yeterlilik Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde, tanımlayıcı istatistiksel analizler kullanılmıştır. Hemşirelerin Kültürel Yeterlilik Ölçeği puanları 20 ile 100 arasında değişmekte olup; çalışma grubumuz için ortalama puan 61.10±13.76 bulunmuştur. Yapılan analizlere göre ölçek ve alt boyutları arasında güçlü ilişkinin (p <0.05) olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Yabancı dil bilme durumuna göre hemşire kültürel yeterlilik puanları arasında anlamlı farklılık bulunmuştur (t:2.935; p<0.01). Farklı kültürlerden gelen hastalara bakmak isteme durumuna göre hemşire kültürel yeterlilik puanları değiştiği tespit edilmiştir (t:3.917; p<0.01). Hemşireye ilişkin tavırlardan dolayı problem yaşama durumuna göre kültürel yeterlilik puanları değiştiği görülmüştür (t:-2.280; p<0.05). Sonuç olarak, kültürel yeterlilik düzeylerinin yükseltilmesi gerektiği, bunun için hastanelerde tercümanların sayılarının yeterli olması, hastanın kültürüne özgü hizmet içi eğitim programlarına öncelik verilmesi ve kültürel yeterlilik kavramının hemşirelik eğitimi müfredatına entegre edilmesi önerilmektedir.

The Cultural Competence Levels of Nurses Working in Children's Clinics: A Case of the State Hospital

Öz

This study was conducted with the descriptive and relational screening method in order to evaluate the cultural competence levels of nurses working in pediatric clinics. The population of the study consists of 418 nurses working in pediatric clinics of a public hospital in Gaziantep, and the sample consists of 215 volunteer nurses. The research was conducted between 28.07.2019 and 01.09.2019. “Sociodemographic Data Form” and “Cultural Competence Scale” were used to collect data. Descriptive statistical analyzes were used to evaluate the data. Nurses' Cultural Competence Scale scores range between 20 and 100; The average for our study group was found to be 61.10±13.76. According to the analysis, it was determined that there was a strong relationship (p <0.05) between the scale and its sub-dimensions. A significant difference was found between nurse cultural competence scores according to foreign language proficiency (t:2.935; p<0.01). It was determined that nurse cultural competence scores changed depending on the willingness to care for patients from different cultures (t:3.917; p<0.01). It was observed that cultural competence scores changed depending on the situation of experiencing problems due to attitudes towards the nurse (t:-2.280; p<0.05). As a result, it is recommended that cultural competence levels should be increased; for this, the number of interpreters in hospitals should be sufficient, in-service training programs specific to the patient's culture should be prioritized, and the concept of cultural competence should be integrated into the nursing education curriculum.
