Bakterilerilerden Gelen Yaşam: Diş Hekimliğinde Probiyotiklerin Kullanım Alanları

Öz

Probiyotikler, “yeterli miktarda alındığında sağlığa yararlı etki sağlayan canlı mikroorganizmalar” olarak tanımlamaktadır. Probiyotiklerin bu etkisini sağlayan başta Lactobacillus ve Bifidobacterium olmak üzere Enterococcus , Streptococus , Leuconostoc , ve Pediococcus türlerini kapsayan probiyotik bakterileridir. Bu bakteriler yiyecek, içecek, kapsül, ve tablet şeklinde piyasada bulunmaktadır. Probiyotik bakteriler gastrointestinal sistemde mikrobiyal dengeyi korur, homeostazı sağlar ve patojenleri azaltarak konak yanıtını düzenler. Oral mikrobiyatanın, gastrointestinal mikrobiyatanın başlangıcı olduğu düşünüldüğünde probiyotik bakterilerin özellikle karyojenik bakterilere karşı antogonistik etkisi, patojenik bakterilere karşı antimikrobiyal madde salınması ve rekabetçi dışlanma ilkesi gibi mekanizmalarla diş hekimliğinin çeşitli alanlarında kullanılabileceği düşünülmektedir. Bu derleme makalesinin amacı, tıp camiasında önemli bir yeri olan probiyotiklerin diş hekimliğinde kullanıldığı alanlardaki var olan çalışmalarının geliştirilmesi ve peri-implant hastalıkları, oral kanserler gibi yeni mecralarda etkileriyle ilgili araştırmaların arttırılmasıdır.
