Abstract
American Board launched its activities in the Ottoman lands in 1820 and shaped its final form in 1860. As a result of the decision at the annual meeting in Harput, the activities in Anatolia were organised as three missions: Western, Central and Eastern Turkey missions. The mission was defined as a region which included education, health, religion and publication activities. Each of these missions was formed around the influence sphere of central school. The Anatolian College in Merzifon was launched as a head quarter of Western Turkey mission. These premises caught the attention of some Western travelers, who visited the Ottoman lands and were mentioned in the travelogues regarding their physical appearance and activities. In this study, through the case study method during the years between 1866-1896 when educational activities were brought to the forefront in the third period, the buildings in the premise of the Anatolian College, will be dealt with and assessed under the light of both the archive documents of the American Board and the travelogues of W. John Childs and thus it is aimed to make some contributions to the field of literature.

Abstract
Amerikan Board örgütü Osmanlı topraklarındaki faaliyetlerine 1820’de başlamış ve 1860’ta teşkilatlanmasına son şeklini vermiştir. Harput’ta yapılan yıllık toplantıda alınan kararla Anadolu’da yürütülen çalışmalar, Batı Türkiye Misyonu, Merkezî Türkiye Misyonu ve Doğu Türkiye Misyonu olmak üzere üç misyon bölgesi olarak teşkilatlandırılmıştır. Eğitim, sağlık, din, yayın çalışmalarını içine alan bölge misyon olarak tanımlanmıştır. Misyonlar, özellikle başında bir misyonerin bulunduğu yönetsel alt birimler olarak bazı istasyonlara ayrılmıştır. Bu örgütlenmenin en alt basamağında yerli yardımcıların idare ettiği uç-istasyonlar yer almıştır. Bu şekilde yapılandırılan her misyon bölgesi, merkezî bir okulun etki sahası etrafında inşa edilmiştir. Merzifon’daki Anadolu Koleji Batı Türkiye misyonunun, merkezi olarak faaliyete geçirilmiştir. Bu yerleşkeler gerek fiziki görünümleri ve içinde yer alan yapıları gerekse yürütülen faaliyetler ile Osmanlı topraklarını ziyaret eden batılı seyyahların dikkatini çekmiş ve gezi notlarına konu olmuştur. Bu çalışma, örnek olay inceleme yöntemi ile Amerikan Board örgütünün Merzifon’da 1866-1896 yılları arasını kapsayan ve eğitim çalışmalarının ön plana çıkarıldığı üçüncü dönemde, Anadolu Koleji yerleşkesinde yer alan yapıları, hem Amerikan Board örgütünün arşiv belgelerinde hem de William John Childs’ın gezi notlarında verdiği bilgiler ışığında ele almayı ve Amerikan Board okullarının yerleşkeleri hakkında literatüre katkı sağlamayı amaçlamaktadır.
