Abstract

EPILEPSY IN CANINE AND FELINE

Year 2020, Volume: 29 Issue: 3, 222 - 227, 30.11.2020

Abstract

Epilepsy is a central nervous system disease, caused by hyper-synchronous neuronal activity in the cerebral cortex as a result of inhibition and excitation imbalance. To determine the prognosis of the disease and its seizures, drugs, which are used in epilepsy treatment, should be classified. Epileptic seizures are classified in two different ways, according to their clinical symptoms and etiology. The purpose of this review is to provide an understanding of epilepsy in veterinary medicine, and to provide information about the classification, which is important for diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.
